Fellowship Spotlight

While in law school, Elizabeth Kristen (’02) completed an externship with Legal Aid at Work, a nonprofit assisting low-income, working families in California. Feeling a strong connection to the organization and its mission, she returned for her Fellowship. Now Elizabeth leads LAAW’s Gender Equality and LGBTQ Rights Program.

Sarah Mattson Dustin (’06) discusses her role as executive director of NHLA, a nonprofit providing civil legal aid to low-income and elderly residents, as well as the path that led her there — including stops along the way as an intern and for her Fellowship.

Sienna Fontaine (’07) and Elizabeth Joynes Jordan (’10) discuss how their careers converged at Make the Road New York and the organization’s efforts in such areas as workers' rights, immigrant and civil rights, and environmental and housing justice.

In 2023, the administration of Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro asked Laval Miller-Wilson (’95) to serve as deputy secretary of the Office of Children, Youth & Families, which oversees the delivery of child protective services by county children and youth agencies, as well as other aspects of the child welfare system, including foster care, adoption services, juvenile justice, family supports and prevention services.
