Mary Giliberti Calls for Youth Participation in Mental Health Policymaking

Mary Giliberti (’93), Chief Public Policy Officer at Mental Health America, coauthored a blog for the Commonwealth Fund promoting ways to prioritize young adult participation in policy discussions impacting mental health parity (“Bringing the Voices of Young People into the Federal Regulatory Process — Lessons Learned from the Mental Health Parity Rule,” Jan. 4). “The Surgeon General has declared mental health a crisis for young people in the United States. It is therefore critical to ensure that their voices are included in policy solutions. Discussions of parity must take into account the growing reliance on teletherapy and newer phenomena such as cyberbullying and digital self-harm, where young adults are likely to have important insights and perspectives.”
