Tara Grigg Green Decries Failures of Texas State’s Extended Foster Care Program for Young Adults

Tara Grigg Green (’15), Co-Founder and Executive Director of Foster Care Advocacy Center, was quoted by The Imprint discussing Texas’s failure to provide Supervised Independent Living (SIL) housing to 18 to 21 year olds eligible for extended foster care (“Hurdles Keep Texas Youth Out of Extended Foster Care Designed to Help Them,” Feb. 20). Tara learned there were 91 empty SIL beds available following one 18 year-old client’s experience. “You have got to be kidding me. There was a solution to this? This was preventable?” she said. “You knowingly left a child at a bus stop to let them be trafficked because you said there are no placements? But there were actually 91?”
