John Bonacorsi Calls for “Aggressive Plan” to Address Violations at Kansas City Apartment Complex

John Bonacorsi (’19), Tenants’ Rights Attorney at Heartland Center for Jobs & Freedom, was quoted in The Kansas City Star calling out “unsafe, unsanitary, and uninhabitable conditions” (including infestation, mold, sewage, massive leaks and structural damage) at the Stonegate Meadows apartments, with Kansas City’s Healthy Homes program observing over 500 violations during a three year span of inspections (“‘Clean It Up or Shut It Down’: Tenants at Kansas City Apartment Complex Demand Action,” Jan. 18). John and the Heartland Center represent current and former residents organizing to compel Stonegate to implement inspections and repairs. “Tenants have a right to live in safe and sanitary housing. It is what both the law and basic human dignity requires. Stonegate has made millions of dollars and it needs to finally start investing that money into the property, as required by law. Tenants are demanding immediate changes from Stonegate. If that does not happen with great urgency, we will seek court intervention. This has gone on far too long.”
