Cassie Chambers Armstrong (’16), Kentucky State Senator for District 19 and former Metro Council Representative for the City of Louisville, was quoted by Louisville Public Media discussing recently expanded eligibility for the city’s “right to counsel” program for low-income residents facing eviction (“Louisville Expanding Eligibility for Eviction Assistance Program,” Feb. 5). Established under an ordinance Cassie sponsored, the program now extends legal assistance to renters who do not have a child under 18. She stated, “Once you have an eviction, there is no way to expunge that. . . . We know the costs of disruptive displacement are huge in terms of the dollars the city has to then invest in housing folks, providing them with services.”
