Michaela Bland (’19), Attorney, Title IX and Equity Specialist at Institutional Compliance Solutions, authored a blog post for ICS discussing the responsibility of school districts to respond, provide supportive measures, and conduct Title IX grievance procedures parallel to law enforcement investigations (“Parallel Tracks: Response to Title IX and Criminal Matters,” Nov. 2). “It is imperative that school districts understand their responsibilities under Title IX, even in matters that are reported to law enforcement. . . . When a Title IX Coordinator receives a Formal Complaint that must also be reported to law enforcement, the investigations must run parallel. In other words, the school will complete their Title IX investigation, while local law enforcement proceeds with their criminal investigation.”
