Nina Kohn (’03), Professor of Law and Faculty Director of Online Education at Syracuse University College of Law, coauthored an opinion for The Hill warning against President Biden’s dangerously low minimum staffing standard for nursing homes (“Biden’s Nursing Home Staffing Proposal Is Dangerously Inadequate,” Sep. 22). “Understaffing in America’s nursing homes is lethal. . . . It’s time for the federal government to stop allowing nursing homes to operate with unsafe staffing levels. After all, the federal government foots the bill for three-quarters of nursing home residents,” Nina said. Calling on nursing home residents and their advocates to comment directly on the proposed standard on the federal government’s website, Nina noted, “CMS [Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services] is legally required to read these comments and consider them in developing the final rule.”
