Cassie Chambers Armstrong Plans to Make Diapers Tax-Exempt in Kentucky

Cassie Chambers Armstrong (’16), Kentucky State Senator, was featured by Spectrum News 1 discussing her plan with the Interim Joint Committee on Appropriations and Revenue to introduce legislation eliminating state sales tax on diapers (“State Lawmaker Proposes Making Diapers Sales Tax-Exempt,” Sep. 21). Preparing to file the bill in next year’s legislative session, Cassie shared, “It has a simple purpose: Make diapers more affordable for families in Kentucky.” Citing Kentucky families spending up to $2,000 a year on diapers, Cassie noted, “Some families resort to washing and reusing disposable diapers, turning them inside out or leaving their child in the same diaper all day hoping that child won’t develop a severe enough diaper rash that they will need to go to the hospital.”
