Amy Laura Cahn Weighs In on Permitting Reform

Amy Laura Cahn (’11), Legal Director at Taproot Earth, contributed to an LPE Blog forum on permitting reform and environmental review, posing new “animating” questions for policymakers in the ongoing debate (“Seven Reactions To The ‘Permitting Reform’ Debate,” Dec. 21). “We as a nation need to learn what is possible when public decision-making centers — in a sustained way — the lives, lived experiences, and voices of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities most impacted by environmental racism and the climate crisis. . . . There are legal, logistical, cost, and cultural barriers to transitioning from an extractive to a regenerative economy. We can and must dismantle them. The self-determination of frontline communities should lead our way.”
