Marni von Wilpert Commends Community’s Opposition to Pride Book Protest

Marni von Wilpert (’11), Councilmember for the City of San Diego’s District 5, was featured in The New York Times discussing how her community rallied to donate over $30,000 toward LGBTQ-themed materials and programming after a protest over the Pride display at the Rancho Peñasquitos Library (“They Checked Out Pride Books in Protest. It Backfired.” Jul. 22). As a member of the LGBTQ community and councilmember representing Rancho Peñasquitos, Marni praised her district’s response. “Suburban, formerly conservative communities are still not buying into this culture war idea that we can’t have love and tolerance and acceptance,” she said. “That has been amazing.”
