Nisha Agarwal Echoes Harvard Students’ Ongoing Calls for an Ethnic Studies Department

Nisha Agarwal (’06), Deputy Executive Director at International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), was quoted by The Harvard Crimson discussing past and present student activism to establish a dedicated ethnic studies concentration at Harvard (“‘Incremental Change’: Student Activists Reflect on Push for Ethnic Studies, as New Generation Continues Fight,” June 2). Reflecting on her own undergraduate advocacy creating Harvard’s South Asian Studies Initiative, Nisha noted, “I looked for classes on India, on Gandhi, on really so-called modern questions and classes, and there was nothing. So it was like, this is very odd because it’s a pretty big country and we should expect that there would be some classes on that.”
