Oscar LondoƱo Advocates Heat Protections for Florida Farm Workers

Oscar Londoño (’17), Executive Director of WeCount!, was quoted by NBC 7 San Diego discussing his organization’s campaign to protect workers from the heat – “Que Calor” or “How Hot,” which would require access to water and breaks in the shade for farmworkers and other outdoor workers exposed to increasingly hotter climates (“Florida Farmworkers Fight for Protection from Heat,” Aug. 1). After an effort to secure statewide protections stalled, WeCount! continues to push for legislation and collaborates on extreme heat protections with Miami-Dade County, modeling a local approach for other communities. Oscar noted, “In a state like Florida, trying to pass regulations to expand protections for workers, it can be difficult.”
