Andy Imparato (’91), Executive Director of Disability Rights California, was quoted in the Los Angeles Times discussing California legislation proposing court-ordered treatment for homeless people impacted by mental illness and addiction, as Disability Rights California joined the ACLU, the Western Center on Law and Poverty, and three dozen organizations in a letter of opposition to the Community Assistance, Recovery, and Empowerment (CARE) Court Program (“Opposition Mounts against Newsom’s Plan for Court-Ordered Treatment of Homeless People,” Apr. 19). “If they start listening to us and really take coercive approaches and court-ordered approaches off the table, I think there’s more hope that we can work with them on something that we can all support.”
