Erin Stewart Presents New School Safety Plan to Replace Worcester School Resource Officers

Erin Stewart (’21), current Fellow with Citizens for Juvenile Justice, was quoted in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette assisting the Worcester school district in developing plans for a holistic approach to school safety, including embracing positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS), safety support specialists, mental health resources, tutoring, and after-school and summer programs (“‘Fail: School Policing in Massachusetts’ Report Discussed at Worcester Activists’ Virtual Meeting; Holistic Models Presented,” Nov. 18). “PBIS is another evidence-based intervention approach. It’s not a curriculum. It’s a commitment to addressing student behavior in a way that is individualized and based upon what each student needs.”
