Elizabeth Keyes Calls for Bold US Action on Climate Migration Crises

Elizabeth Keyes (’04), Associate Professor of Law and Director of the Immigrant Rights Clinic at the University of Baltimore, authored an article for Alchemist magazine outlining measures the US must take to uphold its duty to remedy climate migration (“We Broke It, We Own It: How to Meet the Climate Migration Future,” Nov. 1). “[W]hat kind of expectations do we want to set for migration, when we may need it ourselves? . . . From past migrations within our borders, we … already know that we have a tremendous capacity for adaptation and resilience. We know that when we can summon the political will, we are also capable of welcoming large numbers of migrants from abroad. Let us stop being afraid of the future and start working to meet it.”
