Vivek Sankaran Instructs How Communities Can Help Create Homes Out of Houses

Vivek Sankaran (’01), Professor of Law and Director of the Child Advocacy Law Clinic at the University of Michigan Law School, contributed an opinion to The Imprint promoting the many ways communities can collaborate to support families transitioning from homelessness into homes (“It’s About More Than Four Walls and a Roof,” Sep. 12). “All too often, when we hear stories of children in foster care, our immediate response is to try to save children from their families. But perhaps the secret to creating the world we really want — one in which every member of our community feels valued and respected — is to shift from saving to supporting. From opposition to solidarity. From hate to love. From judgment to understanding.”
