Scott Colom Calls for Broader Support for Survivors of Domestic Violence

Scott Colom (’09), District Attorney, Sixteenth Circuit Court of Mississippi, was quoted in The Guardian discussing the criminal justice response to domestic violence and advocating for a reparative approach aiding victims needs through material support (“Femicides in the US: The Silent Epidemic Few Dare to Name,” Sep. 26). “‘This is a huge problem in our system: that we are not equipped to give her what we need for her to feel safe, and for her to have the ability to get away from this guy. There needs to be a lot more support for women who are victims of domestic abuse to help them get out of their situation,’ Scott said, adding that domestic violence response is ‘one of the worst things we are doing in this system.’”
