Nina Kohn Discusses Numerous New State Laws Protecting Nursing Home Residents

Nina Kohn (’03), Professor of Law at Syracuse University College of Law, was quoted in USA Today regarding improvements to nursing home operations as 23 states pass more than 70 new pandemic-related provisions mandating minimum staffing levels and access to virtual communications, expanding visitation, and requiring infection control and other protections (“After Pandemic Ravaged Nursing Homes, New State Laws Protect Residents,” Aug. 17). “Part of what the pandemic did is to expose some of the underlying problems in nursing homes. This may present an opportunity to correct some of the long-standing problems and reduce some of the key risk factors for neglect and mistreatment.”
