Emanuel Powell Files Suit on Behalf of St. Louis Veteran Killed in No-Knock Raid

Emanuel Powell (’20), current Fellow and Staff Attorney with ArchCity Defenders, was quoted in BLACK ENTERPRISE for a lawsuit co-filed on behalf of the family of Don Clark, Sr., a St. Louis Army veteran killed in a no-knock raid by St. Louis police (“A Family Is Suing St. Louis Police for Killing of a Grandfather While Serving No-Knock Warrant,” July 2). In response to police allegations of previous arrests and the presence of drugs and handguns, Don Clark’s family and ArchCity Defenders said that Clark had no criminal record and acted in self-defense. Emanuel noted, “‘It is completely impossible to believe’ that Clark would have been involved in those kinds of activities. . . . Clark ‘was afraid of the crime that was happening in his neighborhood.’”
