Connor Cory Discusses Recent DOJ Settlement Ending Abbreviated School Days for Lewiston Students

Connor Cory (’16), Attorney at Kids Legal at Pine Tree Legal Assistance, was quoted in a NEWS CENTER Maine article posted on msn.com regarding a settlement reached between the United States Department of Justice and Lewiston Public Schools following a joint complaint launched on behalf of students with disabilities and English learner students (“US DOJ Rules Lewiston Public Schools Must End ‘Systemic and Discriminatory’ Practices,” May 28). In the cited press release from Disability Rights Maine, who initiated the complaint along with Kids Legal at Pine Tree Legal Assistance and others, Connor stated, “The term ‘abbreviated school days’ is really a euphemism for school exclusion. It is a practice that harms the most vulnerable students, and pushes them further away from needed resources rather than pulling them in. This settlement represents a great step forward for students and families in Lewiston.”
