Brian Blalock (’07), New Mexico Cabinet Secretary for Children, Youth & Families Department, was quoted in The Santa Fe New Mexican praising a newly-signed law that eliminates certain court fines and fees for juveniles as “one more positive step forward in juvenile justice reform in New Mexico” (“Lujan Grisham Signs Bill to Eliminate Fines for Juvenile Offenders,” Mar. 31). “Fines and fees unfairly penalize economically disadvantaged families and are contrary to the rehabilitative purpose of our juvenile justice system.”
