Tarra Simmons (’17), Executive Director of the Civil Survival Project, was featured in Law360 regarding her recent win to represent Washington’s 23rd District, becoming the first formerly incarcerated person to win office in the state (“From the Big House to the Statehouse: Convict-Turned-Lawyer Wins Election,” Nov. 4). Running on a platform that included criminal justice reform, addressing climate change and increased access to health care, Tara tweeted on her election victory: “Really grateful for the history we made tonight, and the HOPE and #PolicyChange we will pass to ensure others have opportunity as well. Thank you to the voters of the 23rd [legislative district] for giving me the honor to make our community a place where #everyone can thrive. A place of resilience. I am deeply grateful!”
