Militza Pagán (’17), Staff Attorney at The Shriver Center on Poverty Law, was quoted in The New York Times regarding a victory for her plaintiffs as Judge Gary Feinerman of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ruled Trump’s public charge policy exceeded executive authority (“Trump’s ‘Public Charge’ Immigration Rule Is Vacated by Federal Judge,” Nov. 2). Militza pointed to the policy’s harms and accompanying confusion which “led to decreased participation in public programs and placed a heavy burden on local governments and community-based organizations to replace them.”
