Ray Brescia Calls on Congress to Safeguard Homeowners and Renters from Compound Crisis of Homelessness

Ray Brescia (‘92), Professor of Law at Albany Law School, and Senator Chris Coons co-authored an opinion for The Hill calling on Congress to extend federal supplemental unemployment insurance benefits, fund emergency federal rental assistance and support housing counseling assistance that helps families navigate complex housing programs and secure better mortgage terms and housing conditions (“Preventing Homelessness in a Pandemic,” Aug. 5). “The public health crisis makes the need to prevent evictions and homelessness more acute. Nobody wins in an eviction, especially in a pandemic. Congress must take bold, yet simple, steps to ensure that we do not end up making it more difficult to fight the pandemic because we have a deeper homelessness crisis to address as well.”
