Executive Order is an Utter Misfire: Terri Gerstein and Diane Thompson Advocate for People in Pandemic (not Corporations)

Terri Gerstein (‘95), Director of the State and Local Enforcement Project at the Harvard Law School Labor and Worklife Program, and Diane Thompson (‘94), Of Counsel to the National Consumer Law Center, co-authored an opinion for Morning Consult denouncing the Trump administration’s protection of corporations over people during pandemic as a recent executive order precludes CDC guidance from forming the “basis for an enforcement action” (“Forget COVID! Trump Says Regulations Are the Problem.” June 1). “The Trump administration keeps rolling out the red carpet for corporate America at the expense of the country’s people. … But the real problem isn’t regulation, not by a long shot. Government actions, laws, enforcement and yes, regulations — protection of people, not corporations — are an essential part of the solution for the tremendous challenges currently facing our country.”
