Carl Charles Illuminates Bostock Ruling: Only the Written Word is the Law

Carl Charles ('14), Staff Attorney with Lambda Legal, was quoted in a New York Times opinion piece shedding light on Justice Gorsuch's move to join four progressive justices in the landmark Bostock decision ("What Makes Monday's Gay Rights Ruling So Historic," June 16). "Justice Gorsuch ruled that 'the limits of the drafters' imagination supply no reason to ignore the law's demands. When the express terms of a statute give us one answer and extratextual considerations suggest another, it's no contest. Only the written word is the law, and all persons are entitled to its benefits.'"
