Ray Brescia Outlines Steps to Successful Rent Strikes and Why it Matters

Ray Brescia ('92), Professor of Law at Albany Law School, authored an op-ed for the New York Daily News urging tenants to negotiate collectively to achieve lasting change ("How Rent Strikes Work: Tenants Can Maximize their Leverage by Banding Together," May 1). "A rent strike in New York, replicated in other communities, could lead to powerful housing actions across the country — like a moratorium on rent, real rent relief and infrastructure investment in housing improvements. We all owe many renters — nurses, home health aides, grocery store workers, and delivery people — for their efforts to keep us safe. Making sure they are safe and secure in their homes is the least landlords could do for them."
