Oscar Lopez Calls Out Expelling Students in Pandemic as Inhumane and Counterproductive

Oscar Lopez ('13), Staff Attorney at the East Bay Community Law Center, co-authored a piece published by EndZeroTolerance.org pressing fair treatment for students suspended or expelled during the pandemic and reasserting their fundamental right to an education ("School Discipline in the Era of COVID-19," May 7). "Exclusionary discipline practices disproportionately impact the nation's most vulnerable students, such as students of color, students with disabilities, English Language Learners, and foster youth, many of whom come from communities that are among the hardest hit by the virus."
