In an opinion piece, Derecka Purnell ('17), US columnist for The Guardian, discussed poverty exacerbated by pandemic and the impact of first-generation educational gains ("They Said I Could Break Out of the Curse of Poverty. Coronavirus Proves Them Wrong," Apr. 29). "Getting an education can help you feed people who are poor, but it cannot fix poverty. … Until there is radical redistribution of wealth and a complete evolution of values, more people will endure unnecessary suffering and death."
