Sharon Terman Explains California Unemployment Benefits

Former Fellow Sharon Terman (’05), the director of the Work and Family Program at Legal Aid at Work, was interviewed for a column in The New York Times about how Californians whose jobs have been directly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak can navigate state support (“How To Apply for Unemployment Benefits in California,” March 25). “If it takes you more than five business days to connect by phone, ask the E.D.D. [Employment Development Department] to backdate your claim to the Sunday before you started calling; just keep documentation of your attempts (like screenshots of your call log),” Sharon said in her checklist of tips and resources.
