Omar Jadwat Discusses CBP's Targeting and Illegal Travel Ban

Former Fellow Omar Jadwat (’02), the director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, commented in The New York Times about a recent increase in U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials at airports preventing Iranian students with visas from entering the United States (“Iranian Student Turned Back at Airport, Sparking Protest,” Jan. 21). “We’ve seen before periods where people are unfairly subjected to additional scrutiny or denied entry for reasons that have nothing to do with the people themselves but everything to do with generalized suspicion or frankly prejudice against people from particular countries or regions of the world,” Omar said. Omar also gave an interview on the online “Democracy Now!” broadcast in which he discussed the case against the Trump administration’s new restrictions on immigration from six additional countries (“ACLU: Trump Is Expanding His Racist Travel Ban, This Time Targeting Africans,” Feb. 3).
