Former Fellow Derecka Purnell (’17) wrote an article for The Guardian criticizing the musician Jay-Z for crossing a virtual picket line by signing a deal to produce the NFL’s Super Bowl halftime shows (“Jay-Z Has Crossed the Picket Line With His NFL Deal,” Aug. 19). Derecka also wrote an op-ed for Truthout calling out the “militarization of racist policing within the U.S.” (“Mass Shootings, Militarism and Policing Are Chapters in the Same Manifesto,” Aug. 5).
