Patricia Okonta Discusses Ban on Hairstyle Discrimination

Fellow Patricia Okonta (’18), an attorney for the NAACP, was quoted in an article on PIX 11 about the New York state law banning discrimination based on hairstyle (“Women Embracing Natural Hair Texture as NY Bans Discrimination Based on Hairstyles,” July 15) “Natural hair is a texture that grows naturally from people of color and black people’s heads,” Patricia said. “And we want to make sure that they are able to enter the workplace, enter school, all sorts of public spaces without a limitation on how they can wear their hair.”
