Keith Harper Discusses Indian Child Welfare Act

Former Fellow Keith Harper (’95) was quoted in a Time article defending the Indian Child Welfare Act (“The Fight Over Native American Adoptions Is About More Than Just the Children,” July 2). The article included anecdotes of native children placed in non-native households and eventually forced to return to an unfamiliar tribal community. “The trouble with [anecdotes] is that you’re always going to be able to tell a story on either side that is compelling because you’re dealing with kids’ lives,” Keith said. “But the problem is that their anecdotes don’t reflect what is the reality out there.”
