Former Fellow Jenn Ching (’00), the executive director of North Star, was quoted in a Chronicle of Philanthropy article about how the foundation uses a “participatory grant-making” model to provide communities with greater control of how money is distributed (“Tiny Grant Maker North Star Points the Way to Big Shake-Up in Philanthropy,” July 23). The idea behind the model is to educate younger donors about the uneven relationships between grantees and the foundations that control their budgets, Jenn said.
