Elizabeth Kristen Speaks on Obesity Discrimination Ruling

Former Fellow Elizabeth Kristen (’02), director of the Gender Equity & LGBT Rights Program at Legal Aid at Work, was quoted in HR Dive on the recent Washington State Supreme Court ruling that defines obesity as a disability, making it illegal to deny employment to an obese individual who is otherwise qualified for the job (“Obesity Discrimination Is Now Unlawful in Washington. Elizabeth said she remains skeptical that this decision will spark movement in the federal courts to regard weight as a protected category under Title VII civil rights law.
