Former Fellow Keith Harper (’95) wrote an op-ed for Indian Country Today arguing that the Cherokee Nation is not obliged to adopt Citizens United’s holding permitting “dark money” in political campaigns (“Citizens United Does Not Impact the Laws of the Cherokee Nation,” May 24). “Given that Citizen’s United is a product of the broken national politics and ... has engulfed U.S. politics with additional and exceedingly corrosive dark money, there is no reason whatsoever that the Cherokee Nation courts should follow the patently unwise and reckless decision,” Keith wrote.
