Julia Simon-Mishel Secures Victory From Pennsylvania’s Top Court

Former Fellow Julia Simon-Mishel (’14) secured a ruling by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court granting unemployment benefits for a client who had been jailed on weekends. The decision, which capped four years of litigation, was reported in several publications, including Law360 (“Partial Jail Term Can’t Void Unemployment, PA Justices Say,” April 26). “The court really based its decision on a return to what is the touchstone for interpretation of the Unemployment Compensation Law, which is the remedial nature of the law and the importance of these benefits to individuals who become unemployed through no fault of their own,” Julia said.
