Alesdair Ittelson Discusses Intersex Surgery for Children

Former Fellow Alesdair Ittelson (’12) discussed the legal debate over medically unnecessary surgery for intersex children (“Docs, Advocates Spar Over Bids to Ban Intersex Kid Surgery,” Feb. 19). The lack of “clear guidelines protecting youth with variations in their sex characteristics” increases the chances that doctors nationwide could face lawsuits for such operations, Alesdair said.
