Riyaz Kanji Argues Before US Supreme Court

Former Fellow Riyaz Kanji (’92) made oral arguments as amicus counsel before the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the defendant in Carpenter v. Murphy. The case involves the issue of whether Oklahoma ever “disestablished” the Creek Reservation and thus had the right to prosecute Patrick Murphy, a member of the Creek Nation who allegedly killed another Creek Indian. The arguments received widespread media attention, including in the New York Times (“Is Half of Oklahoma an Indian Reservation? The Supreme Court Sifts the Merits,” Nov. 27).
