Haben Girma Urges Texas to Keep Helen Keller in Its Curriculum

Former Fellow Haben Girma (’13) wrote an op-ed in The Washington Post about her experiences as a deaf-blind student and the value of teaching Helen Keller’s story to children (“Hey, Texas. Students Need to Learn About Helen Keller. Don’t Remove Her,” Sept. 19). “When I tell people about the path I [took] — law studies at Harvard University and work as a disability rights advocate — they think back to their own lessons on Keller,” Haben wrote. “Learning her story sparks something students carry with them into adulthood.”
