Tarra Simmons, a Former Convict, Sworn Into Washington State Bar

Fellow Tarra Simmons (’17), a convicted felon who successfully challenged the Washington state bar’s refusal to admit her as an attorney, was sworn in on June 16. The ceremony was reported by several publications, including The American Lawyer (“At Last: Convict-Turned-Skadden Fellow Set to Join Washington Bar,” June 15). “Society will be better off with Tarra Simmons as an attorney, both because of what she represents and the work she wants to do,” Georgetown Law School professor Shon Hopwood said.
