Terri Gerstein Says Wage Theft Program Takes Wrong Approach

The Hill published former Fellow Terri Gerstein’s (’95) op-ed about the U.S. Department of Labor’s pilot program allowing employers to pay back wages owed to employees while avoiding penalties and damages (“Labor Department’s Program on Wage Theft Enforcement Is the Wrong Approach,” March 22). The article noted that the California Labor Commissioner’s Office — led by former Fellow Julie Su (’94) — takes a better approach by discounting labor violation penalties for employers that participate in its self-audit program.
