Jeree Thomas Moderates Forum on Racial Disparities

A forum on the issue of racial disparities in the juvenile justice system in Charlottesville, Va., moderated by Skadden Fellow Jeree Thomas, was the focus of a televised news segment by the local NBC affiliate (“Task Force Holds Forum on Racial Disparities in Cville,” July 9). The forum was presented by the City Council Task Force on Racial Disparity, which formed in response to a survey that showed that black youths in the area are five and a half times more likely to be in juvenile detention than their white counterparts. “We need this opportunity as a community to talk about what can be done with this issue,” Jeree told NBC29. “The whole point of this task force is to see why we’re seeing these disparities between black and white youth in Charlottesville.”
