Former Skadden fellow Nina Perales ('90) was quoted in an article in The New York Times about efforts to suppress minority voting ("The New Attack on Hispanic Voting Rights," Dec. 17). Nina, a senior attorney for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, represents plaintiffs suing Texas over its redistricting efforts. She explained Republican tactics to redraw Texas Congressional District 23, which had experienced a big increase in its Hispanic population, to include new groups of Hispanics with low voter turnout, in order to maintain the party's 25-to-9 advantage in the state's congressional delegation.
