Steve Hawkins Calls for Ending of Indefinite Detention

A letter to the editor written by former Skadden fellow Steve Hawkins ('89) responding to an op-ed authored by Sen. Dianne Feinstein regarding the closing of Guantánamo was published in The New York Times ("Don't Just Move Guantánamo," Nov. 10). "Her suggestion that a group of detainees should be moved into the United States for continued detention without charge is appalling," Steve's letter said. "The purpose of closing Guantánamo should be to end the human rights violation of indefinite detention without charge — not merely move it to a new location," Steve said. He is executive director of Amnesty International USA.
