Geoff Wertime Urges Representation for Tenants Facing Eviction

A letter to the editor written by Skadden fellow Geoff Wertime of Housing Works about New Yorkers made homeless by eviction was published by The New York Times ("Tenants in Housing Court," Nov. 3). "The consequences of eviction are severe, including increased risk of illness, job loss, substance abuse and disproportionate targeting by the police. Being a person of color, L.G.B.T., young or elderly, and especially living with H.I.V. all increase these risks," the letter said. "It is past time for New York to stand up for the people who make it the great city that it is ... a more even playing field in housing court is an essential step in stemming the tide of newly homeless New Yorkers."
