Jeree Thomas Applauds New Police Policy in Schools

Former Skadden fellow Jeree Thomas ('11) of the Legal Aid Justice Center's JustChildren Program was quoted in a Richmond Times-Dispatch article about a new policy in Virginia's Henrico County regarding how officers will be deployed to local schools, emphasizing "minimizing unnecessary arrests, staying out of matters of school discipline, and extra training" ("Henrico Plans Sweeping Changes to In-School Policing," May 30). "We applaud them for taking the initiative of saying, 'This is a problem; we're not afraid to address it,'" Jeree said. She said she hopes officials will next focus on reducing racial disparity among students arrested.
