Former Skadden Fellow Katie Murphy ('00) of Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article about a statewide lawsuit filed Sept. 17 by her organization and others against the California Department of Health Care Services for failure to process Medi-Cal applications for 350,000 people in the time period required by law (“Patients Sue State Over Backlog of Medi-Cal Approvals, Now at 350,000,” Sept. 17). Katie said she and the other attorneys hope to get action from the court before Nov. 15, when the next round of open enrollment for California's state-run insurance exchange begins. “There will be another wave" of sign-ups and an increase in the review backlog if the current problems aren't fixed, Katie said.
