Allison Newcombe Advocates for Sexually Exploited Girls

Skadden Fellow Allison Newcombe of the Alliance for Children’s Rights was quoted in a Los Angeles Daily News article about the STAR (Succeeding Through Achievement and Resilience) Court, which aids commercially sexually exploited girls with rehabilitation by partnering with representatives from nonprofits organizations ("Prostitution in Los Angeles: Court Gives Girls in Sex Trade a Second Chance," May 18). Allison helps the girls secure extended foster care benefits and prepare for the transition into independence. She said, “The girls think what we tell them and, for the longest time, we were saying they chose this life for themselves ... how can they not think so when they’re getting arrested, placed in juvenile hall, taken to court in orange jumpsuits and shackles, and told this is their fault?”
